Realizing ASU’s Vision for a Sustainable World

Friday, July 9, 2010 - 2:00pm

Under the leadership of ASU President Michael Crow and with the generous support of Julie A. Wrigley, ASU launched the Global Institute of Sustainability in 2004 to advance interdisciplinary teaching, learning, research and practice in the area of sustainability.

Not satisfied to merely build on old ideas, ASU chose to make sustainability a core theme in its comprehensive development as an institution and to create an unprecedented environment for the collaborative exploration of local and global sustainable solutions. Over the last 6 years, ASU has made major strides as a leader in sustainability teaching, discovery and operations, and with an eye toward the future, ASU recently announced a new leadership direction for the Global Institute of Sustainability. Rick Shangraw, senior vice president for Knowledge Enterprise Development, joins us to discuss the trajectory of GIOS.
