Statement from ASU President Michael M. Crow on U.S. Supreme Court decision to uphold DACA

June 18, 2020

Today's decision by the Supreme Court of the United States continues the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program as established in 2012. The Court’s ruling aligns with Arizona State University’s constitutionally mandated mission to provide access to quality education and our institutional commitment to support the success of all students, including undocumented, college-bound graduates of Arizona high schools.

This ruling is meaningful to the university and to the many DACA students and advocates who have labored tirelessly in coordination to expand understanding of DACA’s critical importance to the health, well-being and prosperity of our communities, our nation, and our global future. We acknowledge their vision, work and perseverance.

However, the challenge for DACA recipients and other undocumented students is not over. ASU will continue to support a permanent resolution that addresses residency for all undocumented students.

In the interim, we will keep working with donors, partners and other stakeholders to identify and coordinate private support for DACA and other undocumented students pursuing a postsecondary degree.

We will also maintain our established institutional efforts to support our undocumented students, and students with families of mixed immigration status.
