ASU's role in creating “The Arizona We Want”

The Center for the Future of Arizona describes itself as not a “think tank” but instead a “do tank” that combines public policy research with partnership building to help advance opportunities to improve Arizona’s quality of life. The center recently published a report titled “The Arizona We Want,” which summarizes the findings of a citizens’ Gallup Poll that gauged priority issues for Arizonans.

On March 10, 2009, ASU President Michael Crow met with US Secretary of Energy Steven Chu to discuss a new initiative called “Green Phoenix.” ASU, in partnership with the City of Phoenix, and other government, education and business entities, has devised a 17-point plan to make Phoenix a national leader in renewable energy, water conservation, carbon neutrality, sustainable technologies and green jobs.

Cronkite School, KAET move to Downtown Phoenix campus

On July 21, the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Channel 8/KAET-TV and the KBAQ Production Studio will officially relocate to a new 223,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility on the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus. The new leading edge, six-story facility, which has been underway for over a year, will house classrooms, newsrooms, computer labs, production studios, and administrative offices.

2008 Professor of the Year

Since 1994, the ASU Parents Association has recognized teaching excellence through its Professor of the Year Award. Each year, the Association asked students, staff and other faculty to nominate ASU professors who “best exemplify a passion for teaching and who excel in both undergraduate teaching and in their area of research and/or creative activity.” Winners are selected by a committee of parents, students, faculty, and staff, and the winner receives a cash award of $10,000, funding for an undergraduate research assistant, and a lifelong designation as a Parents Association Professor.
