Dr. James Duderstadt Honorary Degree Remarks

On May 8, Arizona State University presented Dr. James J. Duderstadt with an honorary doctorate for his influential work related to the evolution of the modern public research university and his meaningful contributions in the areas of nuclear research, information technology, and science policy. Dr. Duderstadt is President Emeritus and University Professor of Science and Engineering at the University of Michigan as well as the founding director of the University of Michigan’s Millennium Project. Arizona State University held its Spring Commencement on May 8th celebrating the accomplishments of a record 8,000 graduates. The size of the Class of 2008 surpassed its 2007 predecessors by about 1,000 students and ASU President Michael Crow was on hand to offer congratulatory remarks in honor of the special occasion.
