Research universities are the main source of the innovation and discovery that drives our global economy and produces a myriad of advancements in our standard of living. ASU is one such university working to support the use-inspired research of its students and faculty and to elevate the role, progress and understanding of research in higher education.

This podcast is the first in a four-part series dedicated to discussing the multifaceted aspects of research at ASU, including its purpose, funding, relevance and goals.

In this segment, Rick Shangraw, vice president of Research and Economic Affairs, talks about why university research is necessary, and how it benefits students, the economy and society.
