In 2005, Arizona State University partnered with Sichuan University in China to host their first joint forum on university design. The goal of this continuing partnership, through ASU’s University Design Institute, is to examine new ways to design educational institutions to address the needs of today’s students.On December 8, 2008 Arizona State University and Sichuan University hosted the third forum on university design. The forum entitled “Designing the Research University of the 21st Century” at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C., marked the first time the forum was held in the United States and the forum’s attendees included participants from Australia, China, Mexico and the United Kingdom.This week’s podcast features an excerpt of ASU President Michael Crow’s remarks at the forum where he focuses on the importance of taking a new approach to university design in order to ensure that educational institutions are equipped to address the challenges facing the world today.
