As some of you may have read by now, I have been experiencing some issues with my blog server, which resulted in some of your comments being held hostage. Thankfully, that glitch has now been remedied and I can make up for lost time regarding some of your questions.
In response to Alan's comment on the blog's first day, I wanted to share that ASU does indeed have a suggestion process similar to the one he describes. Launched earlier this year, the Continuous Improvement Program (CIP) provides members of the ASU community with a mechanism for submitting suggestions to specific administrative offices for consideration. They include:
Carol Campbell, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
(Bookstore, Environmental Health & Safety (Risk Management), Financial Services (Comptroller), Mail Services, Facilities Planning and Management, Property Control and Surplus Property, Purchasing and Business Services, University Services (Facilities Planning and Management), Parking and Transit Services)
Milton Glick, Executive Vice President and Provost
(Academic Affairs)
Paul Johnson, Associate Vice President for Research
(ORSPA - Research and Sponsored Projects Administration, Economic Affairs)
Paul Ward, Vice President for University Administration and General Counsel
(Department of Public Safety (DPS/Police), Human Resources (HR), Internal Audit and Management Services, Office of General Counsel)
Each suggestion receives a response. Links to the CIP (maroon boxes with yellow arrows) can be found throughout the ASU website for your convenience. If you haven't already submitted your ideas, I hope you'll do so and let others know about this program as well.

On the subject of Continuous
On the subject of Continuous Improvement, I have recently finished training through Human Resources that makes me very excited about the future of working here at ASU. The ideas of changing the culture and striving past being "good enough" to being the best, at all levels and every individual make me look forward to the changes in ASU's future.
I'm extremely pleased with
I'm extremely pleased with the roadside improvement along the eastern side of Rural Rd between University Ave and the Karsten Golf Course. Having lived here for the past 30 years, it's refreshing to see the University is finally taking an interest in how the roadside approach to a world class university should look. I'm hopeful that you will continue to focus on improving the physical surroundings of the university.
This program has the
This program has the potential to create and maintain goodwill and trust between the institution and the campus community-at-large. However, I submit that it also has the potential generate angst and resentment, depending on how well the institution reponds to suggestions. There is no way that ASU can or should implement each and every suggestion, but in those cases where it does, that should be celebrated, and in those case where it doesn't, that should be explained.
I see two potential benefits for this program, one relates to the institution getting good insight into what needs to be done, and the other relates to the community learning more about the myriad of factors that affect how this institution operates. The former is easy, but but the latter depends entirely on how institutional decisions are understood by the community.
There needs to be more
There needs to be more security on campus. I dont think that i have ever seen a security officer on campus (not including parking lots). I have been cornered a few times in empty allies by people begging for money who are obviously not of sound mind. I would feel much safer on campus if I saw security patroling occasionally.
Dr. Crow, Thank you for
Dr. Crow,
Thank you for letting us know about the CIP program. I have this date submitted a suggestion to each of the four administrators and will let you know the eventual results. You did mention that, "Each suggestion receives a response. Links to the CIP (maroon boxes with yellow arrows) can be found throughout the ASU website for your convenience." I check the website daily including today after reading your blog and I must confess I could not locate any links to the CIP which is not to suggest that they are not present somewhere, just that they were not easily spotted by my eyes. I look forward to seeing how my suggestions are handled.
Glad to hear the server

Hi Dr. Crow,
I don't know if your server is still holding certain posts hostage, but I just left one to let you know that I utilized the CIP program earlier today with suggestions to all four administrators and look forward to their response. When I submitted the comment it did not appear on the blog.
